Spritus reports that not all Caller ID replacement is bad. Many uses are good for business and thus good for the economy.
Spritus is educating its employees on caller ID replacement and how to help people better understand the benefits. Caller ID replacement has been available for years to people with a specialized digital connection to the telephone company. Collection agencies, law-enforcement officials, salesmen and private investigators have used the practice, with the most success.
The first mainstream Caller ID spoofing service, Itellas Communications, was launched in September 2006. Itellas was the first service to allow spoofed calls to be placed from a web interface. Since then there have been several companies pop up selling caller ID replacement; however, Itellas Communications consistently ranks #1 as the company with the most stability, cheapest plans, with the most features. Congress attempted to make caller ID replacement illegal in the US but the bill never passed as a result of so many businesses relying on caller ID replacement for day-to-day communications with customers, co-workers, and employees.
